'Lately I’ve been feeling like speaking out. I feel a sense of urgency and responsibility when I rhyme, to highlight what’s happening in the world, and to put powerful feelings behind that. I listen to Democracy Now often to get the scoop on worldly affairs, and I remember writing the lyrics for “Words Matter” right after some heavy news reports. I feel like 2017 was an unprecedented year on a lot of levels, in terms of politics, race relations, human crisis, and the environment. My lyrics in this song are a raw reaction to these realities we must face in order to change. In 2018 my intention as an artist is to tip the scales and bring balance into Hip Hop  by writing relevant lyrics that question power, and spark ideas that empower. It was great collaborating with Carmen and Marya (Scarlet Crow). Their lyrics motivate us to play big and fulfill our purpose, while their harmonies sink into the soul.' -Jackson Whalan
